The fender struts have been a real pain for me. The ends have broken 4 times from vibration causing work hardening of the alum. I tried some SS tubing with flattened ends and they did the same thing.
The fix ( I hope) is 3/16" x 3/4" flat bar. This seems to be much more stable. The flat bar is bolted to a plasma cut plate so the actual strut is about 2"+ shorter than before. Time will tell. Photos are the old and the new.
I find your blog fascinating. I have always wanted a Mogan Trike, but like you I like to build things. Would you do it again? Are JZR kits still available?
ReplyDeleteyes, i'd do it again; was great fun and incredible to drive. kits are still available. no web site and no email so write:

Thank you. You are still building and haven't hit the road yet. Right?
ReplyDeleteoh no. I got it registered the end of 2014 and have nearly 10,000 miles on it now. My postings to the blog are about what needed correction or what broke. Right now I'm rebuilding the final drive. Metal started showing up in the oil and a bearing was singing. Film at 11.

Hi Fred and glad I am not the only crazy one out there! Been building mine since March 17, and just about to paint (Outsourced) sourced engine from UK (couldn't find here in Australia until AFTER I PURCHASED!) so Ed YES still being made. Wanted alloy mudguards, but GPS until I source.

Mark, I googled MOTORCYCLE FRONT FENDERS and came up with many aftermarket makers of fenders for chopper builders. I cannot find the web site I bought from.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the journey,
Fred
Just been told of Hot Rod builder supplier in Sydney - but as I have GPS ones ready to go ( trial fitted with flatbar JZR brackets) I will paint & then change later
